Traditional Costume Class Description
The following rules apply to the Traditional Costume Class:
This is a non-conformation class and is open to any AKC Registered Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.
The dog does not need to have been entered in any other class.
Each entry must include at least one handler and one Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Multiple handlers and Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are allowed as a single entry.
The entry of a single dog and handler or multiple dogs and handlers will be judged as a whole, therefore it is recommended that all dogs and handlers be incorporated into the “costume”.
This class is intended to celebrate the traditional heritage of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and the costumes may range from deeply authentic to fantasy, covering any era of history from the region of origin for the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog breed.
Packs, Carts, Wagons, Travois, etc. are allowed and decorations to the rigs/equipment will be included in judging of the overall “costume”, but must be capable of moving around the ring with the dog(s).
Entries will be scored based on attention to detail, theme execution, incorporation of dog(s), and overall appearance.
The highest overall score will be awarded “Best Traditional Costume”.
